Emeritus Professor Allan Spigelman MBBS BS FRACS FRCS is a specialist in cancer genetics, with an interest in breast, ovary, bowel, prostate, renal tract, melanoma, soft tissue, sarcoma, brain and endocrine cancers amongst others.

Professor Spigelman trained as a surgeon in Sydney before leaving for London to subspecialise in cancer care and research. On his return to Australia, to undertake the role of Chair of Surgical Science at the University of Newcastle, followed by UNSW, he established and led the first clinical governance unit in Australia. This unit developed several patient safety and clinical quality policies since rolled out across NSW and Australia.

Professor Spigelman served on the NSW Medical Board for over 20 years. He established and leads the Hunter Family Cancer Services, servicing every local health district in rural and regional NSW via a hub and spoke model.

Professor Spigelman conducts clinics across NSW and is pleased to open for bookings at Maitland Private as well as Maitland Public Hospitals.
