Preparing your child for Admission to Maitland Private Hospital.
Your Hospital Booking
For planned surgical admissions, the booking for your hospital stay will be made through your Doctor's rooms.
Please ensure you complete the Admission Booklet and return it to Maitland Private Hospital.
Where possible, we require your Admission Forms two weeks prior to your Admission date. This will ensure we can confirm your hospital booking and your eligibility prior to your Admission.
Costs and Insurance Cover
Contact your insurer (health fund, insurer or other) to confirm exactly what costs will be covered.
If you have an excess or co-payment with your health insurance, you will be required to pay that amount prior to your Admission. Self-funded patients will be required to pay one week prior to surgery. Please contact our pre-Admission team to obtain an estimate at firstname.lastname@example.org
If your child is having major surgery, you may be contacted by one of our pre-Admission clinicians and where required, be booked for a pre-Admission Clinic:
Before speaking with our staff, please ensure you have completed the hospital Admission Forms and submitted them to the hospital either in person or via the online portal
If your child is coming into hospital for planned surgery, we will contact you one business day prior to their scheduled Admission, between 12:00pm and 4:00pm.
During this call we will confirm your child's fasting details including the time of Admission, the procedure, and the expectations relating to discharge and your child's post-discharge care. Note: Your child must be kept under continuous observation by a parent or carer during their fasting period, to ensure they have fasted.
We encourage you and your child to visit the hospital prior to Admission, to ensure that you are both as familiar and comfortable with the environment as possible.
What do we bring to hospital?
Please bring the following items to hospital, where applicable:
Any letters from your Doctor
All medications your child is currently taking (in original packaging)
Blood Group card (if available)
Sleep wear, dressing gown, slippers or comfortable shoes
Personal toiletries (e.g. toothbrush, toothpaste, soap)
Glasses and physical aids (e.g. hearing aids)
A favourite toy, teddy or comforter
A personal entertainment device or books
It is not advisable to bring other children with you when your child comes in for surgery or a procedure, as there are no facilities at the hospital to care for them.
On the day of your child's Admission, ensure you arrive at the hospital at the time designated by the Admissions Officer or your Doctor. On arrival, please register at Reception so we can confirm your child's personal details, sign the hospital paperwork and Admission Forms and pay any out of pocket expenses.
The hospital doesn't accept responsibility for security of your possessions, including jewellery, watches and money. Any valuables brought into hospital can be signed into the hospital's security safe for the duration of your stay.
Family members and/or carers are invited to remain with your child before and after surgery. We do request however, that only one parent at a time stays with your child in recovery.
Please note that mobile phones must not be used in some areas of the hospital, as their signals can interfere with electronic medical equipment.
Please refer to the Facilities and Meals sections for more information about our children's rooms and in-house meals.
We encourage you as parents or carers to spend as much time as possible with your child during their hospitalisation. We also encourage you to assist with the washing, dressing, feeding and entertaining of your child as this helps minimise any trauma of being cared for by strangers.
We value your feedback at Maitland Private Hospital. Whether you want to pass on a compliment or provide feedback to help improve our service, we encourage you to:
