Dr Tom Thorvaldson is a Hand and Orthopaedic Surgeon, located locally at 144 Lawes Street, East Maitland. He is also involved with The Maitland Hospital, where he is Head of Orthopaedics.

Dr Thorvaldson trained in Newcastle and Sydney, achieving specialist qualifications from Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2009. he then underwent sub-specialty training in Hand Surgery in Norway and Sydney. His specialty now lies in surgery of the hand, including joint replacements for fingers and wrist.

When not in consultation or theatre, Dr Thorvaldson is invested in research into wrist replacement surgery, with multiple presentations and instructional course lectures, both at National and International meetings, on Total Wrist Arthroplasty.

He is a conjoint clinical lecturer at University of Newcastle and keenly involved with community organisations including the local Scout group and other sporting teams.
