Dr Young graduated from the University of Newcastle Medical School with the University Medal of Honour and has gone on to specialize in general adult psychiatry, she is a Fellow with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry. For the past ten years Dr Young has worked within Hunter New England Health, across community mental health and acute adult inpatient units, as well as background rotations in emergency, general medical and surgical wards.

Before returning to University to study Medicine Dr Young worked as a physiotherapist with a focus in occupational rehabilitation, chronic pain and health education. This background in allied health has allowed a wholistic, recovery based and multi-disciplinary approach to Dr Young’s medical and psychiatric career.

Dr Young is a general adult psychiatrist with a particular interest in managing mood disorders, psychotic illnesses, post traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders and anxiety. Dr Young has a psychotherapeutic approach to treatment, complementing management with psychotropic medication and recognising the importance of underlying psychological contributors to distress.

Dr Young is not registered to provide stimulant treatment for ADHD.

Dr Young is now treating inpatients through The Barrington Clinic at Maitland Private Hospital, and is also accepting referrals for private patients through her clinic at the Maitland Private Specialist Rooms.
