Maitland Private Hospital reaches 20 year milestone

Maitland Private Hospital has provided the best quality care to people of the region for twenty years, and Friday marks the day the Hospital opened its doors to its very first patient in 2001.

For local nurse professionals Mary Colvin and Briony Tynan, the excitement of beginning a new job in a brand new hospital, right in the heart of their community was a career defining moment.

“Everyone came from different hospitals and different backgrounds, but we were all committed to ensuring Maitland Private was addressing the needs of our community, while offering a superior health service,” says Briony.

From humble beginnings, focusing on maternity and general surgery, the hospital was renowned for its personal, but always professional, approach. “We got to know the families, and would see previous patients at the local shops,” says Mary. “Women who had their babies here at Maitland Private, are now coming back for other procedures so it feels like we’ve come full circle.”

The Hospital has grown exponentially over the years and now offers a full suite of medical services including oncology, mental health, acute surgery, rehabilitation and intensive care.

“While Maitland Private has grown to meet the needs of the community, we are proud to continue to offer a personalised care that goes above and beyond for every person that comes through the doors,” says CEO Peter Cizzio.

More improvements are planned for 2021, including the expansion of the car park and the construction of a new radiation oncology centre by Icon Group, meaning patients will no longer have to travel to Newcastle for their radiation therapy.
