Hospital Orientation Program

On commencement, all staff are provided with a thorough introduction to the department where they will be employed.

New staff are also required to attend the Hospital orientation program. This program, which is supported by our executive team, includes a number of compulsory education programs:

  • Basic Life Support
  • Fire and Emergency Training
  • Manual Handling
  • Infection Control
  • Medication competency (for nursing staff)

Internal Training Programs

Throughout the year, we provide a range of internal training programs including compulsory programs. This ensures our staff are kept up to date with their skills.

External Education

Staff are encouraged to maintain and upgrade their qualifications.

Opportunities exist for sponsorship to external conferences and study days. There is an internal application process for funding to assist in these areas.


Non-clinical staff are provided with opportunities to undertake traineeships in areas of interest such as maintenance, administration, catering, CSSD, theatre and housekeeping.

Management Development Program

Maitland Private Hospital’s clinical and non-clinical managers have access to comprehensive management development training.

Graduate / University Placements

We also offer regular clinical placements for students across a wide range of health disciplines from Newcastle University, Sydney University as well as many other Universities/TAFES across the State.

With formal clinical placement agreements, students are fully supported by the clinical nurse educator, experienced clinical nurse specialists, medical and allied health staff.

Students are provided valuable learning experiences across all specialities.
