New Rehab ward opens at Maitland Private Hospital

Maitland Private Hospital today celebrated the grand opening of the Chisholm Rehabilitation Unit, a new 44 bed rehabilitation facility, which began construction 12 months ago. The Unit is named in honour of 19th Century Humanitarian, Caroline Chisholm who provided the wives of convicts assistance in emigrating to the Hunter Region in the 1800’s.

In addition to 12 existing beds, the now 56 bed unit is the largest private rehabilitation unit in the Hunter Region, which will enable the hospital to reduce the extended waiting list and provide services to an increased number of Hunter residents.

The grand opening was attended by Member for Maitland Jenny Aitchison who addressed the crowd and cut the ‘grand opening ribbon’. Maitland Deputy Mayor Bob Geoghegan,  Councillor Phillip Penfold, CEO Brett Dennet and DCS Sue-ellen Blomfield also partook in the ceremony, which was followed by a tour of the facility and lunch.
