    Acute Medical Services

    Should you or a family member need admission for an acute medical condition, 1st floor is well supported by a team of nurses, allied health professionals and medical consultants to ensure your care is well managed.

    Allied Health

    Allied health consists of a team of health professionals working closely with medical specialists and nursing teams to provide co-ordinated, multi-disciplinary patient care to meet the individual needs of our patients.

    Our commitment to excellence in patient care involves communication with families and carers to ensure adequate support is in place when patients leave hospital.

    The allied health team contributes to clinical care in the treatment and prevention of disorders and diseases and patient and staff education.

    Allied Health Outpatient Clinic

    Maitland Private Hospital has recently opened the Maitland Private Hospital Allied Health Outpatient Clinic. The clinic, which is on-site, offers a large range of services including:

    • Occupational Therapy
    • Speech Therapy (available for both adult and paediatric)
    • Exercise Physiology
    • Rehabilitation Program (Pre-Surgery, Post Surgery, Sports, Neurological, Falls Prevention)
    • Lymphoedema Management
    • Vestibular & Dizziness Rehabilitation (from April 2015)

    Day Surgery

    Maitland Private Hospital’s day surgery (short stay) facilities are designed to provide a comfortable environment where your day surgery or procedure is performed.

    Our day surgery patients are cared for by dedicated nursing and medical staff who are experienced in dealing with the particular requirements of day surgery and procedures.

    Dental Surgery

    Most of our patients requiring dental surgery are cared for in our dedicated day surgery unit. Please see Short Stay section of Your Hospital Stay.

    DVA Patients

    Maitland Private Hospital is a Tier 1 provider for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA). DVA patients are very welcome and we have a Veterans’ Liaison Officer who provides support and assistant to our DVA patients.

    General Practitioner - On Call Roster

    Maitland Private Hospital employs an on call, after hours GP roster. This service compliments the hospitals CMO coverage.

    Maitland Private Hospital’s Surgical Unit is located on the ground floor of the Hospital. Our staff are committed to providing the highest standard of pre and post-operative care for patients undergoing surgery.

    Gynaecology

    Maitland Private Hospital has facilities to perform both major and minor gynaecological surgery procedures including:

    Operating Theatres

    Maitland Private Hospital has a busy Theatre Suite comprising 4 operating theatres. Both day surgery and general surgery procedures are undertaken in this Theatre Suite.

    Orthopaedics

    Maitland Private Hospital has a modern operating theatre equipped with laminar flow specifically set up for orthopaedic procedures.

    Patients undergoing orthopaedic surgery are supported by our physiotherapists.

    Our Palliative Care unit is located within the Medical Ward. Maitland Private Hospital has developed a close working relationship with community based palliative care teams. We offer ongoing services and assistance in caring for your loved one.

    Pastoral Care

    The hospital benefits from the assistance of a pastoral carers contact list. Please ask a staff member if you would like a visit from a pastoral carer while you are in hospital.

    Pathology

    On-site pathology services are available to meet inpatient requirements 24 hours a day.

    Pharmacy

    Slade Pharmacy is on-site and caters for inpatient and discharge pharmacy requirements.

    Slade pharmacists are medication specialists who work in collaboration with other health professionals to ensure you receive the best possible care during your hospital stay.

    Physiotherapy

    Our team of trained and highly skilled physiotherapists care for our patients.

    Radiology

    Hunter imaging is situated in the adjacent Medical Centre and provides most radiology services for inpatients.

    Recovery

    Maitland Private Hospital has a 9 bed Recovery Unit staffed by registered nurses specifically trained in the post operative care of anaesthetised patients.

    Rehabilitation

    Maitland Private Hospital's Rehabilitation Centre is an inpatient facility purpose built to provide services and programs for chronic disease management. The programs provides chronic disease management that focus on:

    • Improving patient outcomes following discharge

    • Ensuring patients receive integrated seamless care across the hospital and community sectors

    • Providing a platform to manage the individual’s health and well being for life

       

    We also have a Day program that allows extra support - this is available to both inpatients and outpatients.

    Sleep Medicine

    Sleep Studies are provided on site by Sleep Medicine

    • Inpatient Overnight Diagnostic Sleep Studies (the gold standard)
    • Inpatient Titration and CPAP studies
    • MSLT (Multiple Sleep Latency Testing) used for the assessment of daytime sleepiness
    • MWT (Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing) used to assess the ability to stay awake, for example, for professional driving license accreditation.
